The duckDNA project is a new community science initiative launched by Ducks Unlimited and the University of Texas at El Paso to engage waterfowl hunters in studying genetics and hybridization in North America’s wild ducks. Recent science has shown that an alarming percentage of presumed wild mallards result from hybridization with game-farm (released) mallards, and ongoing research suggests wild x game-farm hybrids may be poorly adapted to natural habitats. This project will help determine how widespread this issue is while studying how individual genetics influence waterfowl behavior and ecology.
Up to 700 participants will be selected. Submit your information to enter the drawing. Currently, participation is limited to U.S. hunters.
